There is so much jargon in the personal development world and I’m passionate about demystifying what I understand of it in order that purpose driven visionaries can understand and apply the principles to making their lives extraordinary.

What is energetic alignment?

The way I understand it, it is when you feel deeply
connected to your purpose. You can see beyond your limitations and you feel little or no resistance to it.

You are performing in your
energetic sweet spot where you feel in tune with yourself, your needs and your desires. You are able to move from high to low energy with ease and are as comfortable in action, as you are in recovery.

You are happy to
honour that ebb and flow. You protect your energy as necessary and create a next level narrative that feeds your highest visionary desires.

How that looks on a day to day level will depend on you, your lifestyle and your personality but suffice to say you’ll feel happy, engaged and confident in all that you do the majority of the time (I didn’t say always because you are human!)

How do you know you are OUT of Alignment?

If you find yourself listening for long periods to the loud din of that
Mean Little Cow voice and the accompanying saboteurs, it’s likely you are out of alignment. Of course, even in alignment that inner critic voice can pop up, but when you are in alignment you will soothe or shush that voice quickly and continue on the path you have decided for yourself.

Out of alignment, you may
wallow in its chatter. This can create an energetic downward spiral. This can deplete your energy and derail you from pursuing what you truly desire.

You might be telling yourself that you don’t deserve it or you aren’t good enough. You start listening to those old narratives and seek external approval to validate your actions. You may start to meet the values of others to please them, leading to you not meeting yours and feeling frustrated and resentful.

On a day to day basis, that will feel like you are
non stop busy but resent everyone from keeping you from what’s important to you.

What are Values and why are they important?

I’ve talked a lot about Values above so I think it is best to clarify what values are before we get stuck into what to do if you are out of alignment.

Values are our core beliefs.
They are the guiding principles that dictate our behaviours because they create our ongoing thoughts and feelings. Our perspective of the world around us is formed by the core beliefs that have been instilled in us.

Values are our core beliefs. They are the guiding principles that dictate our behaviours because they create our ongoing thoughts and feelings. Our perspective of the world around us is formed by the core beliefs that have been instilled in us.

Looking at the following Core Values, do you identify with any of them?

Contribution

Compassion

Adventure

Autonomy

Determination

Honesty

Fun

Growth

Kindness

Loyalty

Wealth

Security

(For
165 Values, check out Lisa Barry’s epic blog HERE once you’ve finished mine.)

Now consider how these values impact on how you respond in certain everyday circumstances. If your values conflict with situations you find yourself in they can trigger responses that may not be as uplifting as you would like.

Imagine how it feels if
adventure is a high value, but you are in a risk averse, repetitive work situation (or a global pandemic limits your ability to travel etc). Potentially, you are going to feel trapped and anxious. Look at ways this might be happening for you.

If you don’t know what your Core Values are this can feel very
chaotic and confusing as you respond to certain situations in a way that creates feelings of anger, frustration, resentment or guilt etc. It might trigger those pesky saboteurs to start dragging you down.

What to do if you don’t have clarity and feel out of alignment?

Gaining clarity on your Core Values can help you see where your energy, time and focus is allowing you to live life on purpose. It’s the
foundational work upon which to build a Vision and define Success.

You might be
creating limitations around what you believe to be possible before you even start if you aren’t clear on the Core values that underpin your dreams and Vision and where they came from, our conditioning is strong. Parents, educators, friends, TV, our communities will have shaped your values over the years.

First thing to do is to
list your top 6 Core Values. Start with a long list then start to eliminate until you find your top 6.

Whether you know it or not, these will be driving your feelings and actions. Or holding you back if they were formed as a child and never questioned as to whether they meet your needs and desires as a next level visionary.

J
ournal on the following questions.

How do they play out in everyday situations?

How do they play out in your relationships?

How do they play out in your business and when setting goals?

How do they play out when pricing services/products?

Consider what happens when you don’t feel able to fulfil these values in all of the above?

By and large it will trigger that Mean Little Cow voice and plummet you into low energy and procrastination.

This is because of something we call
‘Incongruence’ in coaching speech. It’s why the lauded ‘Fake it until you make it.’ might work in the short term, but can be exhausting and lead to burnout over longer periods of time.

Imagine a scenario where you have a high value of
‘compassion’ but are in a role that demands you to take a very ‘authoritarian’ approach.

Imagine a scenario where you have a high value of ‘Security’ but in a role that demands lots of risk taking

Imagine a scenario where you have a high value of ‘Contribution’ and yet your efforts feel like they aren’t helping anyone.

Your Core Values are not matching up to the situations and events you are working in. There is an incongruence.  When you create your Vision it’s important to see whether your Core Beliefs
feel safe to be realised in the Vision you have created, if not you may find yourself in an internal battle with yourself when trying to bring your Vision to life.

How do you overcome incongruence and become more congruent in your Vision creating alignment so you can live on purpose?

As said above, the first thing is clarity.

Clarity on what your Core Values are.

Clarity on how they play out in different settings.

Clarity on where there is incongruent in your life and business and what needs to change.

Next, using the
RISE Method you can put these Values to the test by questioning and soothing that Mean Little Cow voice and the saboteurs.
