Are you having enough fun as an adult?

Are you?

I asked the question on my Facebook profile recently, “What’s the most fun you’ve had as an adult?”

I loved the responses. Here are some of them.

“I did this weekend.” -
Michelle Kehoe (photo above)

“Probably
indoor skydiving - it was great fun and WAY better than jumping out of a plane!” - Nik Oakes

Hubby took my hand and ran across the field after dropping the youngest at beavers camp... (we were trying to escape both children). LOL.” - Steph Hemsted Williams

“When my hubby took the kids out for a full day and I got to stay home and do a lot of
unadult ish things - eating Ice cream and all the snacks in my underwear watching adult TV without having to pause every 5 seconds and a nap …girl I’m easy.” Charmaine Johnson- Fuller.

“Rolling Stones at
Glastonbury, Florida theme parks, zip wires and forest roller coaster and lots of awesome family stuff. Funfair rides on our wedding day too.” Paula Garrard

“Sitting in the sea alongside my daughter, slapping the water and seeing who could
splash who the most. Totes grown up. Squelching around in mud and dancing like a maniac in the rain storm at a festival. Basically anything that’s not vaguely grown up.” Tara Louise

“Having a kid free night at the
water park in Center Parcs.” Karen Flannery

Paddling in the sea on my donut today - I have loads of fun all the time - sometimes laughing at nothing til I cry.” Laura Lucas  (photo below at the 80s roller disco)

“We went on holiday and people were surfing. I couldn’t surf so I switched to a body board and caught a good wave - it was like a steam train whooshing me into the shore. I was screaming with laughter and sheer delight when the wave completely covered me. My bikini bottoms went right up my bum and I couldn’t move for laughing.” Gill Fell.

“Riding really
fast and dangerous.” Fiona Robertson

“Walking with my then boyfriend, down the street at
Disney World while eating ice cream in the cooking rain.

Walking down the aisle a year later, watching my niece, the flower girl wipe her nose with her dress.” Susan Thomas

“Definitely playing with my boys. Love
building Lego, bowling and board games. Seeing through the eyes of a child.” Angela McMillan.

“Festivals in the 90s. Clubbing in the noughties. Travelling around
southeast Asia including kayak trekking in Laos, tubing down river in vang vieng, seeing the milky way in a power cut on a Vietnamese island and spending Xmas on Koh Phangan with a big crew of new friends. I'd like to say snowboarding but I hurt myself too many times for it to be at the top... Still fun when it worked though!” - Sally Tyson

“Going to
Disneyland Paris. It was for my daughter's 9th birthday but I planned to see every parade and get all the autographs. I think I was more engrossed than the kids.” Leann Evans

“Going to
Go Ape to confront my fear of heights, it was scary but exhilarating like a roller coaster ride. I was very proud of my achievement.

Swimming in the Cornish sea in October. So cold it took my breath away.

Taking part in the Bubble Rush fun run. It gave me the bug.” Angela Doore

“Noel and I went to meet the breeder and his dogs, of the dog breed we have fallen in love with. It was quite possibly the best day of my life! .... Me, Noel, a lovely bloke and his 8 basset fauve doggies giving me kisses!” - Sarah Fountain (photo below with an abundance of puppies)

“Last week on a boat watching turtles mating and dolphins jumping out the open sea in Oaxaca, Mexico, Pacific Ocean. Then swimming in the sea with fish around me.

Words cannot describe my happiness. It was super fun!” Flor Sigala

“Wow…what a question. Well putting aside the fun while having ‘adult fun’, probably
Glastonbury with fam and friends or maybe doing whole school kids discos back when I was in my physical prime. When I put in maximum energy and got it fired back at me 100 fold was really quite something. Making others happy, and in particular young people is about as much fun as I can have. I’m a serious guy, who likes having serious fun. Always.” Richie Davis

What became clear is that as adults we have two ways to create fun.

The first is in BIG VISION moments. Doing adventurous and fun things whilst on holiday and living in the moment. You can feel the freedom and lack of constraints and responsibilities in these answers. You can sense stepping out of the comfort zone and enjoying new experiences that expand and enrich our lives.

For me, camping at the top of North Dome in Yosemite with best friends, a
campfire and the threat of bears visiting us in the night was a Big Vision moment I will never forget. Singing and cooking tinned beans as we watched the sunset was so much fun.

Scuba diving in the
Great Barrier Reef and seeing reef sharks and amazing fish was also such a high. The list goes on…

What was also great to see is how the fun things can happen in those quieter, more everyday moments. Being present and
engaging with the situation or the people you are with fully and truly, enjoying it for the fun that it is. As parents I see a pattern of needing space away from the kids to step away from the weight of responsibility that can hold, as well as taking time out, with the children, of the many ‘shoulds’ that a school term can bring.

Last year,
Go Ape with my teens and more recently a firepit night playing cards and cooking s'mores definitely pushed the fun buttons. (photo below after the biggest zip line.)

Dancing on an empty beach locally always makes me laugh at myself and adds a bit of fun in my week. I can’t wait to enjoy raucous nights out like ‘Bongo Bingo’ with friends and family or a cheeky weekend away being a couple with the love of my life.

I also find fun in networking with Latte and Live and Leading Ladies. They have made online networking such fun and the people who attend are all up for that.

Doing lives, creating new materials and  having a laugh with my VIP Visionary Lounge membership is also great fun.

As purpose driven women in business we can easily forget how easy it is to tap into fun in our lives and our businesses when we are focusing on all the things we feel we ‘should’ be doing. #sodtheshoulds

Our Visions are a true representation of how that fun can manifest itself and how we can consciously create it more regularly

Having more fun increases your energy, produces happy hormones like serotonin and endorphins which override the stress hormones of adrenal and cortisol. It elevates your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual energy.

If you feel you are lacking fun right now, start by looking at how you will create it this week.

Then expand that Vision to how you will bring it in that month. Go further and look at the year or the next year.

Fun can be found all around when we look for it.

Where will you create it?
